Our History
In 1932, John Muzi watched automobiles drive in and out of the Tydol Gas Station across from his home in Newton, Mass. Intuition told him that the automobile would change the makeup of America and he wanted to be a part of it.
As he was leaving for work one morning, John asked his wife, Bertha, to call the Tydol Gas Company to see what it would take to get a gas station off the ground. The answer was $200, self confidence and a lot of hard work. The very next day, John and Bertha sold their own automobile - worth $700 - for $200 and it was official: Muzi Motors was in business. John's new company was founded on simple, but extraordinary principles: Take care of your customers. Take care of your employees. And give back to your community. A determined man, John was just 23 years old when he walked to the docks in his native Italy, jumped on a ship headed to America and never looked back. In an age of great change, John Muzi proved himself to be a pioneer; a man who strove to do better, to be better and to change with the times. That same pioneer spirit still vibrates through Muzi Motors today, almost 70 years later.
Growth Spurts
By 1935, many Muzi customers who wanted to purchase new automobiles asked John for advice. Instead of referring them to any of the local dealerships that were springing up, he thought, he wanted to be the one selling the cars to his customers. In 1938, he found a location with enough space to handle a full dealership and all the services and amenities his customers deserved, so he moved Muzi Motors to the old Route 128, across from the Howard Johnson's in Needham.
John sold Willy's American, Desoto, Chrysler/Plymouth and Diamond T trucks. His business flourished and he added Hudson, Dodge Trucks, GMC Trucks, International Trucks, Alpha Romeo, Fiat, Jaguar and Jeep franchises.
In a period of just two decades, John Muzi went from owning a small gas station to being a destination for America's love affair with the automobile. He didn't do it by being a better salesman, but by giving his customers what they deserved: Honesty, solid advice and fast and reliable service. The Golden Age of the American Automobile
In 1956, John Muzi was forced to move his dealership to its present location to make way for the expansion of Route 128. Now John could look out his office window at the automobiles speeding past, knowing that he was the man behind many of those vehicles.
That was also the year that John and Bertha's son, Frederick Muzi, joined the business. Fred had just graduated from Babson College after serving in the military and wanted to follow in his father's footsteps.
A year later, William Cammarano, John's son-in-law, joined the family business. The second generation of the Muzi family was about to take the business into a new age in the American Automobile Industry.
Some car lines ceased to exist and others slipped from prominence. The Muzi dealerships, too, changed with the times. Between 1956 and 1963, Muzi continually improved and expanded the new facility, filling in acres of land left by the construction of Route 128.
In 1963 Muzi acquired a Ford franchise. It turned out to be the deal that would make the dealership famous. Over the next 30 years, Muzi Ford City became one of New England's largest and most respected Ford dealers.

Big Changes and Big AwardsJohn retired in 1966 and Fred and Bill took over full-time. Almost immediately, they added the body shop and reconditioning center. They employed an expert staff of factory trained body technicians and built the facility into what is still one of the largest of its type in New England, providing customers with state-of-the-art body, frame and collision repair services. Muzi Motors added a Hyundai dealership in 1985 which soon gave way to a Chevrolet dealership, an opportunity they just couldn't pass up. By 1989, TIME Magazine recognized Muzi Motors with the Quality Dealer Award for Business Achievement and Community Service. Muzi was nationally known for their superior quality, honesty and service.
The Third GenerationFred and Bill recently passed the torch to the third generation: Bill's children, Neal and Glen Cammarano, their sister Dale Sinesi have taken the lead. In recent years, the Third Generation has worked to make Muzi Motors the destination for car care in New England. WashWorld, a full service detailing car wash, was recently opened to rave reviews. Shortly after opening, WashWorld set new standards for customer service and quality in the car wash industry. Customers return again and again to the friendly and prompt service that is raising the bar in New England. Knowing how important it is for customers to get their cars serviced when it's convenient for them, Muzi Motors recently added more service bays and extended service hours. The Third Generation has also made the commitment to the consistent support of community service projects. Firmly believing that they have a responsibility to the community at large, Muzi Motors donates their time and money to education, the fight against breast cancer, and children's causes. Operating under the same solid but extraordinary principles upon which the company was founded - take care of your customers, take care of your employees, and give back to your community - Muzi Motors is poised to be the new leader in America's Love Affair with the Automobile in the 21st Century. |
